This post is long, LONG overdue. I am going to keep this short.
In my 2021:
- Quit my job
- Moved from Tampa, Florida to Denver, Colorado
- Went skiing for the first time in my life
- Joined a coding bootcamp - Hack Reactor - where I learned some fundamental web development skills. Mostly around the MERN stack: Javascript, MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js
I am now attempting to change careers from IT support and systems administration to software development.
I would love to say it’s been a wild and fun ride, but I don’t think that’s the whole truth. It’s actually been a slow and gradual grind, with various levels of excitement and exhaustion as I experience being in a new place and away from all my family and friends, while studying and working to acquire new skills.
Christmas was very quiet and relaxed - not bad, but hopefully next year will be much more energetic with local friends and much less anxiety about all the changes.
To end this on a positive note: I feel like a whole new world of technology has been opened up to me. The bit of coding I’ve learned so far has already allowed me to pick up on popular tools/frameworks like Next.js and TailwindCSS, and now I’m looking into trying the C#/.NET/ASP.NET ecosystem.
Cheers to 2022 - looking forward to a new year and new me!
